The great success for the Year of Roses 2021 continues: the initiative is promoted internationally by Okay! and ACT, Art Culture Tourism. Today we present the images (SECOND SUBMISSION) received from Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP), Nottinghamshire, UK. The photographs are accompanied by an interesting and meaningful comment, which we publish here.
Amid Spring’s rains, and its weak rays of sun, we began to think about the rose.
We sought out its distinct narrow leaves, its reaching tendrils, its spike of thorns as we took walks in fresh air.
As the days warmed, rosebuds began to appear, bringing promise.
For women helped by BWP who had experienced pain, thinking of the rose – a bold symbol of love – unearthed deep emotion.
So we began to create, using the rose as inspiration.
From poetry and photography to origami and painting.
Throughout the summer, the flower’s shape, its beauty, its scent, but most vitally – its deep-rooted association with love, inspired women who are victims of domestic abuse to express themselves creatively.
Our rose garden grew.
A small display in the warmth of June had bloomed by the sunshine of late August.
We welcomed others to read, to see, and to add to the garden. And to reflect on the rose’s significance.
As we had done.
These photos also fit right into our beautiful Album of the Year of Roses 2021.
We remind you that the deadline for participation in the initiative expired on 30 September 2021. The online exhibition is now being prepared with a selection of the works received which will also be part of the official video of the initiative.
